I remember when I first started my IVF journey; it all seemed extremely complex. There are so may terminologies and a lot of assumed knowledge that is was hard to get a grasp of what I should expect.

This video aims to demystify the process for beginners. It is an explanation of In Vitro Fertilisation –  IVF – at a very basic level. IVF is set to mimic the natural cycle as far as possible. In this video, I cover how the natural ovulation cycle works and what the difference is between this natural cycle versus an IVF cycle. By the end of this video, you should not only understand the meaning of terminologies like FSH, LH, Estrogen and Progesterone but also know what role they play in both the natural cycle and in an IVF cycle. IVF lingo like “I’m stiming” or “trigger shot” should make sense and the whole process from start to finish will hopefully no longer be a mystery.

In my quest for answers to my unexplained infertility, I came across several research papers and books that convinced me to take a look at what was lurking around my house as they could be the cause of infertility. To be more precise, I was looking for anything that contained two specific chemicals:

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical commonly used in almost everything including most plastic containers. Phthalates is also a chemical commonly found in some plastics and other common products around the house. BPA and Phthalates can impact on infertility adversely. They have been found to compromise IVF success rates and increase the risk of miscarrying. They have also been linked to conditions such as PCOS and diabetes among other things. In the video linked below, I share the changes I made around my house to minimise the impact of these toxins and also the research around it as I find that the research is always a good motivator for change.
